DHAKA, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Md Rezaul Karim Reza to death in a case filed over the killing of his lover, Dr Jannatul Naim Siddique, at Family Service Apartment in the capital's Panthapath area in 2022.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz pronounced the judgment in absence of the convict and issued arrest warrant alongside the conviction warrant against him.

According to the case documents, Reza and Jannatul, posing as husband and wife, rented a room at Family Service Apartment in August 2022. On August 10 of that year, Reza slit Jannatul's throat and left her to die in the room.

Police recovered the body of Dr Jannatul from the apartment around 9:30 pm. Her father, Shafikul Alam, later filed a case with Kalabagan Police Station.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Reza the following day, and he subsequently gave a confessional statement in connection with the murder. He was later sent to jail but managed to secure bail and went into hiding.

Police submitted the charge-sheet in the case on December 28, 2023, while the court framed charges against Reza on March 7, 2024. Twenty-one out of 25 prosecution witnesses testified before the court during the trial.
