RANGPUR, Nov 11, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested vice-president of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Rangpur metropolitan committee Manjurul Haque Manik, 28, in a case of attempted murder and attack on an anti-discrimination student movement.
"Manjurul Haque Manik was arrested from the Medical Mour area of the city at 1:00 pm on Monday," officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md Ataur Rahman told BSS today.
Arrested Manik is one of the accused in the attempt to murder case of Mokbul Hossain, who was shot during the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur city.
He is also accused of attacking and firing on a procession during the student movement.
Manik is the son of Md Habibur Rahman of Sonakholi village of Dimla police station in Nilphamari district.
He had been absconding since the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's fascist regime on August 5, 2025.
Manik had recently come to Rangpur and was trying to organize terrorists in various ways.
"After completing the legal process, we produced Manik before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court, from where he was sent to jail on Monday afternoon," the OC added.
