BINA opens five-day workshop to boost nuclear agriculture for food security

MYMENSINGH (BAU), Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) today inaugurated its five-day Annual Research Review Workshop 2024-25 at the BINA Auditorium on the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus, focusing on the role of nuclear technology in sustainable food security.

BINA Director General Dr. Sariful Haque Bhuiya presided over the opening session, with Md. Abu Zubair Hossain Bablu, Additional Secretary (Research Wing) of the Ministry of Agriculture, attending as the chief guest. Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibar Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at BAU, was present as the guest of honor.

Speakers included A.K.M. Anisuzzaman Anis and Md. Shafiqul Alam Shohel, Members of BINA's Board of Management, Dr. Md. Azizul Haque, Director (Admin & SS), BINA, Dr. Salma Lajju, Additional Director, Department of Agricultural Extension and Professor Dr. M. Hammadur Rahman, Director, BAURES, BAU.

In his presentation, Dr. Md. Hossain Ali, Director (Research), highlighted BINA's recent achievements, including the development of several high-yielding and stress-tolerant crop varieties such as Binadhan-17, Binadhan-19, BINA moog-13, BINA chinabadam-12, and Binalebu-1.

Chief guest Bablu praised BINA's contributions to national agricultural progress, noting that its innovations have enhanced productivity and resilience. He urged researchers to intensify efforts to tackle climate change challenges and secure long-term food stability.

Guest of honor Dr. Mujibar Rahman emphasized BINA's close collaboration with BAU and other research bodies, stressing the need for science-driven initiatives to improve farmers' livelihoods.

The workshop, organized under the project "Strengthening Research Activities of BINA," will feature technical sessions on crop improvement, radiation technology, and sustainable agricultural development.

Operating under the motto "Atom for Peace," BINA continues to lead in applying nuclear techniques to enhance agricultural innovation and productivity in Bangladesh.
