CHATTOGRAM, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) – City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced the launch of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for children at the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC)-run Memon Hospital.
“Additionally, low-cost dialysis facilities will be introduced to further enhance healthcare services. These initiatives aim to contribute to the overall goal of creating a healthier city,” he added.
Dr. Shahadat made the remarks as the chief guest at the annual award distribution ceremony and reception for meritorious students of Haji Abdul Ali City Corporation High School today.
He highlighted the ongoing health initiatives, noting that over nine lakh children are receiving free typhoid vaccines to promote a healthier Chattogram.
The Mayor emphasized that investing in education and health should be viewed as nation-building rather than an expense. He expressed his vision of developing a new generation capable of leading a society free from discrimination.
Dr. Shahadat also said that Chattogram is being transformed into a green, clean, healthy, and safe city for the benefit of the youth. He mentioned that the CCC budget has allocated funds for both education and health sectors.
He further highlighted progress in addressing waterlogging problems, mentioning a 50 percent improvement over the past year. Renovation of canals has been prioritized, with most of the 57 canals already renovated and plans underway for the remaining ones.
The school’s headmaster, Md. Jasim Uddin, chaired the event, which was attended by CCC Chief Education Officer Dr. Kissinger Chakma, Senior Assistant Secretary and Education Officer Najma Binte Amin, and School Management Committee member SM Zia-ul-Huda, among others.
