DHAKA, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said BNP will repeal the indemnity law in the power sector if it comes to power.

"The Indemnity Act for the power sector was enacted to serve political objectives...At that time, a storm of plunder and theft swept through the power sector. The law was put in place to legalize the thievery. This law must certainly be abolished,” he said. 

In this connection, he said if the BNP forms the next government, it will definitely repeal this law.

Rizvi made the remarks while addressing the closing session of the two-day 'CAB Youth Parliament-2025' organized by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of Dhaka University's Faculty of Social Sciences.

Referring to the BNP's 31-point outline for an environment-friendly future, Rizvi said, "Although our (BNP's) electoral manifesto is yet to be released, our party chief has mentioned about renewable energy in her 31-point proposal."

Besides, she (Begum Khalda Zia) has also committed to plant 25 crore trees to make the country environmentally friendly and that their growth will be monitored using technology, the senior BNP leader quoted the party chief as saying. 

"Our leader has also spoken about the navigability of 20,000 kilometers of wetlands, including rivers and canals. These must be restored to their former condition," he noted.

Rizvi further said that considering the country's socio-economic context, energy management is crucial for maintaining a healthy environment. Therefore, investment in this sector must be increased.
