PATUAKHALI, Nov 01, 2025 (BSS)- Paying rich tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Vice Chairman and former home minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury today said he (Ziaur Rahman) did politics for the welfare of the society and the country as well.
“Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was agriculture friendly,” he said while addressing a view exchange meeting with Dumki upazila unit of Krishak Dal at Upazila Parishad auditorium here.
He said his (Ziaur Rahman) 19-point programme was widely accepted by the people in a very short time. “Agriculture is one of the driving forces of the economy. He brought revolutionary changes for the farmers. Through the agricultural revolution, the country achieved self-sufficiency in food. He was a true patriot. The nation will forever remember his contribution with respect,” he added.
Chowdhury said the 31-point announced by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is being accepted by the people of the country. The 31-point is the charter of the nation's liberation, he added.
He said a vested group is carrying out widespread propaganda and conspiracies to halt the elections. Everyone must be vocal and vigilant against them, he added.
Dumki Upazila Krishak Dal President Md. Jahangir Alam presided over the meeting while General Secretary Zahidul Islam conducted it.
Former acting general secretary of Patuakhali District BNP Maqsud Ahmed Bayezid Panna, joint general secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal Central Committee Mojibar Rahman, president of Patuakhali District Women and Children's Rights Forum Jasmine Jafar, former general secretary of district Jubo Dal Advocaye Taifiq Ali Khan Kabir, former senior vice-president of Patuakhali district Jubo Dal Syed Mostafizur Rahman Rumi, former vice-president of Patuakhali District Chhatra Dal Advocate Anisur Rahman, former acting general secretary of Dumki Upazila BNP Md. Jasimuddin, joint convener Matiur Rahman Dipu, among others, spoke in the event.
Member secretary of Krishak Dal district unit Tariqul Islam Ivan addressed it as the key speaker.
