JHENAIDAH, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 10 Bangladeshis on charges of illegally crossing the border at Maheshpur in the district.
Among those detained are one woman and two children.
They were detained during separate operations conducted late Tuesday night and at various times on Wednesday, according to a press release issued by Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion Assistant Director Munshi Imdadur Rahman today.
In addition, the BGB recovered 59 bottles of Indian Phensedyl in a separate operation carried out by the Uthali Border Outpost (BOP).
Those detained are Mukul Hossain (44), son of Nazrul Islam of Kusumpur village in Maheshpur;Ajay Kumar Hawlader (37), of Burmajumdar village in Betagi police station, Barguna;Ripon Mridha (28), son of Nobokumar Mridha of Latenga village in Kotalipara police station, Gopalganj;Sumoti Biswas (24), son of Sumanto Biswas of Borashi village in Gopalganj Sadar;Jayanta Biswas (25), son of Jagadish Biswas of Raghunathpur village in the same area;Yusuf Gani (54), of Sarkari Ghona village in Pekua police station, Cox’s Bazar; and Nur Alam (26), son of Abdul Manik of Maiarchar village, Sylhet.
According to BGB, at around 9:45 pm on Tuesday night, members of the Kusumpur BOP under Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion conducted an operation in the Chapathala border area, detaining a local broker and a woman. Later, around 1:30 pm on Wednesday, BGB personnel from Matila BOP arrested two people who had entered Bangladesh illegally from India in a separate raid.
In another operation, BGB members from Baghdanga BOP detained six more individuals, including two children, who were reportedly attempting to cross the border illegally into India. The detainees have been handed over to Maheshpur police station.
Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said the detained children will be sent to the Justice and Care Center in Jashore. Legal proceedings are underway to file cases against the remaining detainees and present them before the court.
