CHATTOGRAM, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS)- The "World Stroke Day 2025" was observed at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) this morning through various programmes aimed at preventing stroke and raising awareness.
The Neurosurgery Department of CMCH organised a series of day-long events to mark the day.
City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain inaugurated the function as the chief guest.
During his speech at the inaugural ceremony, the mayor highlighted that one in every four adults worldwide experiences a stroke in their lifetime. This risk applies to individuals aged 25 and older, he added.
He emphasized that many of the risks associated with strokes can be managed through regular exercise, low salt intake, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and controlling diabetes and blood pressure.
Dr. Shahdat stressed the importance of prevention over treatment in addressing strokes. "Every individual should recognize the early symptoms of stroke and seek immediate treatment within the 'golden hour' to reduce the mortality rate," he remarked.
Following the inauguration, an awareness cycle rally was organised from the CMCH premises.
Subsequently, a series of events took place, including day-long blood pressure check up, free health consultations and distribution of leaflets on stroke prevention.
CMCH Director Brigadier General Md. Taslim Uddin and its Principal Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin attended the function as special guests.
