BOGURA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson’s Special Assistant and former Chairman of BIWTC Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today said transport sector plays a major role in the national economy.
“The contribution of workers’ organizations to Bangladesh’s economic transformation is also widely recognized,” he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the North Bengal Regional Committee of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation for the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions at the Motor Workers Driving Training Center in Harigari, Islampur in the district.
“Transport is a service-oriented sector. A massive number of people are involved in it as their lives and livelihoods depend on transportation. Unfortunately, the entire transport sector has been stigmatized because of a few extortionists. The previous Awami League government had turned the transport industry into a hub of looting and corruption,” he said.
The BNP leader urged the commissioners of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, Range DIGs, police commissioners, district administrations, and superintendents of police to continue their tireless efforts in maintaining law and order in the country.
He said the role of the administration is invaluable in keeping the communication system running smoothly.
Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation acting President Abdur Rahim Box Dudu spoke as the chief discussant and acting general secretary Humayun Kabir Khan as the special guest with Vice President Md. Abdul Hamid Mitul in the chair.
