KHULNA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Shyama Puja, also known as Kali Puja, was celebrated with due religious fervor and festivity at Khulna University (KU) on Monday.
The students of the Hindu community organized the event with overall support from the University Temple Committee.
The day's observance began in the afternoon with the arrival of the idol at the university's central temple. An inaugural ceremony was held at the temple premises at 8:00 pm to mark the occasion.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said that KU is a place where people of all religions enjoy equal dignity and freedom.
"The greatest strength of this university lies in its harmony and coexistence," he said, adding, "We aspire to build a campus where humanity, respect, and unity are the core values that bind us together."
The Vice-Chancellor also urged all to uphold mutual respect and religious harmony in all activities of the university.
Professor Dr. Uttam Kumar Majumdar, President of the Temple Management Committee, presided over the function.
Sohaag Chandra, a student of the Computer Science and Engineering Discipline, delivered the welcome speech, while Dipankar Kumar Saha, General Secretary of the Temple Committee, conducted the programme.
A large number of teachers, students, officers, and staff of the university joined the celebration in a festive mood.
To mark the occasion, a cultural programme has been scheduled for Tuesday evening.
