DHAKA, Oct 19, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today expressed concern over a series of fire incidents across the country, saying that such fire incidents became a matter of concern for the nation.
“The nation is anxious for such a series of fires across the country,” he said while talking to reporters at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan.
Rizvi also alleged that a certain group is actively working to destroy stability in the country and that India has consistently provided direct and indirect backing to this effort.
"How is such a series of major fire incidents possible? The airport authorities are blocking fire service vehicles, is this merely bureaucracy, or is there a deliberate conspiracy behind it?" he said.
The senior BNP leader alleged, "A group is striving to destabilize the country, and India is consistently backing this effort, either directly or indirectly. India does not want a stable situation in Bangladesh, or establishment of a stable government in power. India has always supported an illegitimate government like Sheikh Hasina’s."
Referring to the 2014 general election, in which no major political party participated, the BNP leader said, “Yet, Indian diplomats came to convince Ershad to take part in that election. This is a direct interference with Bangladesh's sovereignty."
Rizvi also expressed concern that attempts are being made to create an unstable environment in the country surrounding the government's election plan. "The government has decided to hold an election by February next, and efforts are underway to foil that. Are these consecutive fire incidents merely accidents, or are they part of a planned conspiracy? This needs to be investigated,” he said.
Regarding the security of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Rizvi said, "A bulletproof vehicle is being purchased to ensure Begum Zia's safety. If she is healthy, she will participate in the election campaign."
Rizvi called for the July Charter to be established as the 'Magna Carta' and urged, "All anti-fascist political forces must unite to re-establish democracy in the country. If 'mob-cracy' prevails instead of democracy, establishing democracy is impossible."
BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon and Swechchhasebak Dal Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sopu, among others, were also present at the time.
