DHAKA, Oct 19, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said that his statement on the 'July Fighters', centering a clash with law enforcers during the signing of the July National Charter, was partly and selectively published.

He said, "My statement that was broadcast, calling the 'July Fighters' cohorts of fascism, was truncated and broadcast partially. I urge everyone not to air my statement by cutting it short."

Salahuddin Ahmed made the comments at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in the city's Gulshan area.

Commenting that the attempt to pit the BNP against the July Uprising would not succeed, the senior BNP leader said, "I tried to honor the July Fighters through my statement. We don't want a stain of infamy on our unity. Therefore, we must be careful when making statements."

"I support the Jamaat-e-Islami Amir's similar status on this matter. A political party held a press conference based on one of my statements and asked me to apologize. I welcome this. Confusion has been created around my statement," he added.

Salahuddin further added, "At the July National Charter signing ceremony on Friday, there was a disorder involving the July Fighters, where some unruly individuals created chaos. I said at the end of my statement that I do not believe the July Fighters were involved in all of this. I said that no one could belittle the July Fighters or tarnish their honour."

Mentioning that the BNP always honours the July Fighters, he emphasized, "We always respect the July Fighters. Those who participated in the July Uprising are our strength. We do not want them to be criticized in any way."

Regarding the referendum, Salahuddin said, "The issue can be discussed again if necessary. I hope the government will issue a gazette notification considering everything."

Commenting on the recent fire at the Cargo Village of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he said, "The fire incident is under investigation. The government has formed an investigation team; let's see what their findings are. However, I think some incidents are linked to the same source. Some groups, along with perhaps the cohorts of the fallen fascism and the fallen fascism itself, might be doing these to create instability in the country. But that cannot be said before the investigation."
