DSCC launches massive cleaning drive in DMC, DU, BUET

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today launched a cleaning drive in collaboration with Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) administrations in their campus areas.

The campaign includes cleaning initiatives and mosquito-control activities.

A total of 1,300 cleaners from DSCC's Waste Management and Health Departments took part in the drive simultaneously across the three campuses.

Starting at 6 am, the drive was joined by Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) leaders.

In DMC and BUET areas, cleaning workers from the institutions also participated.

DSCC cleaners extracted plastic waste from drains and sprayed mosquito-control medicines.

As part of the drive, illegal makeshift shops and floating carts were removed, specifically from the Shaheed Minar to Anandabazar area.

DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia and Secretary to the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi were present during the drive.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan, DUCSU Vice President Md Abu Shadik, and officials from BUET and DMC administrations were also present.

Briefing reporters during the cleaning drive, Rezaul Maksud Zahedi said, "From today, we will continue to work together to remove extraneous and illegal structures to keep our campuses clean, like university campuses in the developed world."

DSCC Administrator Shahjahan Mia said the campus administrations and DSCC will work together to maintain clean campuses.

"The actual number of dengue patients in DSCC is much lower than the statistics of the Health Department. As major hospitals are located in the DSCC area, dengue patients from all over the country come here for treatment," he said.

Expressing determination to ensure a healthy environment around hospital areas and reduce traffic congestion, he added, "No more profiteers will be given the opportunity to conduct illegal business in front of Dhaka Medical College."
