DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted a fresh four-day remand for former Jatiya Party lawmaker Masud Uddin Chowdhury in a case filed over the killing of a man during the July uprising in the city's Mirpur area.

After completion of an earlier four-day remand, police produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court. The investigation officer (IO) of the case sought a seven-day remand for further interrogation.

After hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Ismail granted a four-day remand.

Police arrested Masud Chowdhury on the night of March 23 from his residence in the city's Baridhara DOHS area. He had earlier been placed on remand in another case involving allegations of embezzlement of Tk 24,000 crore and human trafficking.

According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, victim Delwar Hossain, 40, was present with other protesters at Mirpur-10.

At that time, the accused along with 500-700 unidentified people allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the demonstrators using local and firearms.

Delwar Hossain sustained bullet injuries and was first taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. As his condition worsened, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Shyamoli, where he died on July 21 while undergoing treatment.

On July 6, 2025, the victim's wife, Liza, filed a case with Mirpur Model Police Station over the incident.
