DHAKA, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS) - Former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral (Retd) Sarwar Jahan Nizam died at 9.15 am today at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
He was 73. Members of the Bangladesh Navy, including the current chief of naval staff, have expressed deep sorrow over his death, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) release said here today.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers on Saturday at the Bangladesh Navy headquarters mosque. Later, he will be buried at the Banani Military Graveyard with military honours.
Born on November 2, 1952, in Anwara upazila in Chattogram district, Nizam was commissioned into the Bangladesh Navy as a sub-lieutenant on June 1, 1973.
Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam held various important positions throughout his illustrious career. In continuation of his distinguished service, he took charge as the Chief of Naval Staff on February 10, 2007, and made significant contributions to safeguarding the country's sovereignty and advancing the Bangladesh Navy through patriotism, professionalism and capable leadership.
He played a vital role in the modernisation and development of the Bangladesh Navy. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and a host of admirers.
The Bangladesh Navy has expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
