Jamaat condemns detention of Shahidul Alam by Israeli forces

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e Islami has condemned the detention of Bangladeshi photographer and writer Shahidul Alam by Israeli forces.

In a statement today, Jamaat-e Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that the Israeli forces detained several vessels in international waters on Wednesday, including the aid ship Conscience-part of the ‘Gaza Freedom Flotilla’— which was heading towards the blockaded Gaza Strip.

During the seizure, 93 individuals were detained, including journalists, doctors, and human rights activists. Among those detained, there is well-known Bangladeshi photographer Shahidul Alam.

The vessels were reportedly transporting essential humanitarian assistance, including food, water, and medicine, for the residents of Gaza.

Professor Parwar expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the Israel’s actions, calling it ‘inhuman and against international law’.

He emphasized that according to international human rights law and the Geneva Convention, no party can obstruct humanitarian aid from reaching its destination.

He asserted that the occupying Israeli regime, by detaining the vessels and the human rights workers, has committed a heinous crime against humanity.

He further characterized this attack on the innocent people of Gaza as a disgraceful chapter in the history of humanity.

The Secretary General demanded immediate international pressure be placed on Israel to ensure that the aid-carrying ships can safely reach their destination to save the lives of the hungry and blockaded residents of Gaza.

Furthermore, Professor Parwar called for the unconditional release and guarantee of the security of all detained human rights activists, including Bangladeshi photographer Shahidul Alam.

He appealed to the global community to play a forceful role concerning this issue.
