DHAKA, Oct 3, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Md Jasim Uddin, a prominent leader of the Cumilla BNP unit and former student leader.
Md Jasim Uddin, former president and general secretary of Cumilla South District Chhatra Dal, former vice-president of Cumilla Government College Students' Union, former general secretary of Cumilla City BNP, and former senior joint convener of Cumilla Metropolitan BNP, passed away yesterday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
He was 55.
In a condolence message, Mirza Fakhrul said the late Jasim Uddin was a firm believer in the ideals of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the Bangladeshi nationalist philosophy.
He said Jasim Uddin played a vital role in strengthening the organizational structure of BNP in Cumilla city and the metropolitan area.
"His contribution to the democratic movement under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia was commendable. As an honest and modest individual, he earned wide respect within the community," the BNP Secretary General said.
Recalling his contributions to student politics, Mirza Fakhrul described him as a shining figure during the golden era of Chhatra Dal in Cumilla South District.
He also mentioned that Jasim Uddin's elder brother, the late Alauddin, was also a significant leader of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal.
The BNP leader expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives, and well-wishers of both Jasim Uddin and Alauddin, and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.
