CHATTOGRAM, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been investigating the incident of disappearance of two containers with auctioned cloth of Taka 1.5 crore from the Chattogram port.
In this regard, an ACC team conducted a raid at the port on Sunday, ACC Deputy Director, Chattogram Subel Ahmed revealed this to media.
Owner of Shah Amanat Trading Salim Reza purchased approximately 27 tonnes of fabrics of Taka 85 lakh at a Chattogram Customs auction in early February. He later paid an additional Taka 17 lakh for duty, price, and port charges.
When he arrived at the yard with a truck on February 26, he was informed that the container was missing. As of now, there has been no sign of the missing container.
Another container, which was recently sold in auction, is also missing with cloth worth about Taka 42 lakh. The total value of the missing goods is said to be over Taka 1.5 crore.
Salim Reza said that his business is on the verge of closure due to the financial loss of over Taka one crore. The funds have been tied up for seven months, and despite numerous letters to customs authorities, no solution has been provided.
Another bidder, Md. Yakub, mentioned that while theft outside the port area would be understandable, the disappearance of containers within the tightly secured port raises serious concerns.
ACC Assistant Director Syed Imran stated that they received a complaint regarding two bidders who purchased goods through auction from the custom house. The bidders had inspected the goods at the yard before making the purchase.
However, upon paying all the charges and attempting to collect the goods, they were informed that the containers were not available.
Despite filing complaints with the port and customs, they have not received the goods or a refund.
Imran is currently investigating the issue and has met with the port chairman and the Commissioner of the Custom House. An investigation committee, led by the Director (Security), has been formed by the port authority to look into the matter.
