Media can play key role to success typhoid vaccination campaign: Fayzul

KHULNA, Sept 26, 2025 (BSS) - Director General (DG) of the Department of Mass Communication Fayzul Haque on Friday said that the media has a crucial role to play in ensuring the success of the campaign of typhoid vaccination. 

He also emphasized the need to build awareness to counter misinformation and called for stronger publicity efforts.

He made the remarks as the chief guest in a consultation workshop on "Typhoid vaccination" held with journalists at the Shaheed Humayun Kabir Balu Auditorium of Khulna Press Club. 

Khulna Divisional District Information Office organised the workshop ahead of the upcoming Typhoid Vaccination Campaign.

 "Typhoid is a preventable infectious disease, and there is no reason to fear the vaccine. Parents and guardians must be encouraged to bring students to vaccination centers on scheduled days," he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas presided over the event while Enamul Haque, convener of Khulna Press Club, ASM Kabir, deputy chief information officer of Khulna Regional Information Office, SM Sayedur Rahman, district education officer, and Md. Abul Kalam Azad, senior health education officer of the Civil Surgeon's Office, addressed the meeting, among others.

Gazi Zakir Hossain, director of the Divisional District Information Office, delivered the welcome address while Deputy Director (DD) Md. Ibrahim Al-Mamun moderated the program.
 
Dr. Md. Ariful Islam, divisional coordinator of WHO, presented detailed information on the vaccination campaign through a PowerPoint presentation.

It was informed that under the campaign, a target has been set to vaccinate 42.80 lakh children in 10 districts of Khulna Division including Khulna City Corporation.
 
So far, 13.10 lakh children have been registered online. In Khulna district alone, the target is to vaccinate 4.31 lakh children in nine upazilas.

The nationwide Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025 will be held under the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) from October 12.

In Khulna Division, vaccinations will be administered in schools and permanent centers during the first two weeks (October 12-30) and in community centers from November 1-13. Children aged nine months to under 15 years will receive a single dose of the vaccine.

Parents must register children using their 17-digit birth registration number at www.vaxepi.gov.bd to get the vaccine.
