DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) – Four fire service personnel are now undergoing treatment at the burn institute, two with cent percent burn wounds and one with 42 percent following an explosion at the chemical go-down at Tongi, an outskirts of the capital this afternoon.
“Three firemen are now in critical condition, two with 100 percent and one with 42 percent burn injuries,” Resident Surgeon of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) Dr Shawon Bin Rahman told BSS tonight.
He said four fire service personnel were taken to the burn institute following the fire incident in Tongi.
Firefighters Shamim (42) and Nurul Huda (40) suffered 100 percent burn injuries while fire officer Khondoker Jannatul Nayem (35) sustained 42 percent burn wounds and firefighter Joy Hasan (24) received 5 percent burn injuries, he said.
Director General (DG) of the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense (FSCD) Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal later visited the injured fire service personnel at the NIBPS tonight.
The fire service personnel sustained injuries when an explosion took place at a chemical go-down while they were dousing a flame erupted in a tin-shed chemical warehouse at Sahara Market at Tongi, Gazipur around 3:29pm today, media officer of the FSCD Talha bin Zasim told BSS.
All of them were admitted to the burn institute for treatment, he added.
Seven firefighting engines brought the fire under control around 7pm tonight after around two hours of frantic efforts, he said.
