CHATTOGRAM, Sept 21, 2025(BSS)- Two workers who sustained critical burns in a gas cylinder explosion at a warehouse in Chandanaish upazila have died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery
(NIBPS) in Dhaka, family members confirmed this morning.
The deceased were identified as Md Idris, 26, from Chhaiyadabad in
Chandanaish upazila of the district and Md Yusuf, 30, from Cox's Bazar
district.
Abu Talha, younger brother of Idris, said the duo succumbed to their injuries
while undergoing treatment at the NIBPS in Dhaka early this morning. "My
elder brother has passed away, and another one has also died. We are
currently making arrangements to take the bodies home," he stated.
The explosion occurred on the morning of September 17 at a gas cylinder
warehouse in the Charati Char area near the border area between Chandanaish
and Satkania upazilas of the district.
Eight other individuals were severely burned in the blast. They have been
identified as gas cylinder shop owner Mahbubur Rahman, 45, Md Sourav Rahman,
25, Mohammad Kofil, 22, Mohammad Riaz, 17, Mohammad Akib, 17, Md Harun, 29,
Mohammad Liton, 28, and Mohammad Saleh Uddin, 33.
The wounded are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals in
Chattogram and Dhaka. The cause of the explosion is still under
investigation, prompting concerns about safety measures at gas storage
facilities in the region.
