DHAKA, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) - BNP-backed former lawmaker Prof Dr AKM Kamruzzaman passed away today at the age of 85.

He breathed his last around 12 pm at United Hospital in the capital, officer of the BNP chairperson's media wing, Shamsuddin Didar confirmed.

His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held today at Banani Chairman Bari Road Jame Mosque after Jumma prayers. He will be laid to rest at the family graveyard in Nangolcoat village of Cumilla district after the Ars prayer tomorrow.

He is survived by his wife, sons, daughters and numerous relatives and well-wishers.

Dr Kamruzzaman was elected Member of Parliament from Cumilla-11 (Nangolcoat) constituency in 1991 representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
