DHAKA, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today said BNP has already reached consensus on 60 to 70 percent of the issues under discussion in the National Consensus Commission.

"We have already agreed on 60 to 70 percent of the issues. Disagreements may remain on 10 or 20 other issues," Moyeen Khan said while addressing a discussion titled "Dialogue for Democratic Reconstruction" at the CIRDAP auditorium. 

The event was organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS).

On the ongoing reform process, he noted, "Differences of opinion are natural. Each individual may hold a different view. If we cannot accept this diversity, the democratic process cannot function properly. I would even be concerned if all political parties and the entire population agreed on everything, as that would indicate something is wrong."

He added, "Why should we assume agreement is required on every national issue? All political parties in Bangladesh have agreed that a fair and neutral election will be held next February. The government will be formed by those who win the support of the voters."

Moyeen Khan emphasized that the interim government should place trust in the people of Bangladesh. 

"This faith is mutual. The main reason the previous reform process failed was its inability to break from conventional approaches. That is why I say the reform process itself needs reform," he explained.

Addressing political parties, the veteran BNP leader said, "Disagreements among parties are expected. We must discuss them directly. There is no inherent conflict here. Without mutual trust, no reform can succeed."

He also criticized the ruling Awami League, saying, "They attempted to impose a dictatorship, forcing everyone in Bangladesh to think the same way, leaving no room for dissent."

Security analysts, energy experts, former diplomats and leaders of various political parties participated in the discussion, which was moderated by CGS President Zillur Rahman.
