CHATTOGRAM, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) - A special court here today sentenced a female bank official to five years in jail for embezzling money deposited by clients as utility bills amounting to Tk. 3.57 lakh.
Mizanur Rahman, judge of Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Court, pronounced the verdict in absentia of the accused, imprisoning Tajkeratun Nesa, a junior cash officer of United Commercial Bank’s Halishahar branch in the city.
Assistant Director of Chattogram Anti-Corruption Office Md Emran Hossain filed a case on November 27, 2022, accusing Tajkeratun Nesa of appropriating the money.
The UCBL authority earlier terminated the junior cash officer on charges of pilfering clients’ utility bills by not depositing them into the bank account.
Clients had deposited their WASA and gas bills to the UCBL branch from March 28 to September 17, 2018.
Public Prosecutor of ACC Md Kabir Hossain informed that the court also fined Tk. 3 lakh 12 thousand 664 along with a three-year jail term under section 409 of CrPC and a two-year jail term under section 420 of CrPC.
