DHAKA, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested two people in a sensational case of auto-rickshaw driver Akram Hossain murder in the old Dhaka's Kamrangirchar area.
The arrestees have been identified as Md. Jiban (21) and Md. Ashiq (22).
A team of Kamrangirchar Police Station arrested the duo with the help of CCTV footage analysis at the scene and information technology after conducting a raid in Chawkbazar Police Station area on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Lalbagh Division Mallik Ahsan Uddin told a news briefing at the DMP Media Centre here.
Kamrangirchar police said that the driver Akram Hossain arrived in front of Munshihati Muri Factory in Kamrangirchar around 3:05 pm on September 11, 2025 with unknown passengers in his auto-rickshaw.
At that time, the passengers snatched Tk 1,500 in cash from him and tried to hijack the auto-rickshaw. When the victim Akram resisted them, they hit him on the right side of his neck and back with sharp weapons and fled the scene.
People nearby rescued the victim and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The victim died while undergoing treatment around 6:30 pm on the same day (September 11).
His brother Zahirul Islam filed a murder case with Kamrangirchar Police Station.
The arrested Jiban and Ashiq Elahi gave confessional statements before court the under Section 164 of the CrPC admitting their involvement in the killing, the release said.
