DHAKA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested 12 more leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations including former mayor of Gaforgaon municipality from different parts of the capital city.

They were arrested on charges of creating chaos to deteriorate the law and order situation by bringing out sudden processions in the capital city.

Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed their arrests.

The arrested are former General Secretary of Bura Majumdar Union Awami League, No. 5, Betagi Upazila, Barguna District, Md. Yunus Ali alias Elias (52), Awami Jubo League leader of Gazipur Metropolitan Shamim Osman (37), General Secretary of Ward No. 26 West End High School Unit, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, Md. Mahmud Dewan Shipu (36), Ward No. 26, West End High School Unit, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Office Secretary Md. Jamil Hossain (35), former Liberation War Affairs Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Awami Jubo League and former Mayor of Gafargaon Municipality, Mymensingh District Advocate Kaiser Ahmed (57), Dhaka North City Corporation Ward No. 53 Krishak League Vice-President Md. Soleman (44), Dhaka Metropolitan South 67 Ward No. 67 Awami Swechchhasebak League Former President Ikramul Hasan Rubel (34), former General Secretary of Tangail District Jubo League, former Joint Convener of Chhatra League, former President of Basail Thana Awami League and Chairman of Basail Upazila Kazi Olid Islam (54), President and Secretary of Sramik League of Barontek Unit, Cantonment Police Station Mohammad Khairul Islam alias Jewel Khan (47), Dhaka Metropolitan Ward 35 Chhatra League Senior Vice President Md. Sajib Khan (33), Dhaka Metropolitan Darussalam Police Station Unit 06 and Ward 09 Awami League General Secretary Md. Aslam Khan (49) and Kaliakair Upazila Jubo League President Hiru Mia (56).
 
Police on Monday arrested the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium area under Mirpur Model Police Station, in front of Mascot Plaza under Uttara West Police Station, Lalbagh Kella area under Lalbagh Police Station, Lalbagh Shaheed Majad area, Humayun Road area under Mohammadpur Police Station, Fulbaria Tekpara area under Turag Police Station, Demra Police Station, Mirpur-11 area, Cantonment Police Station area, Radhika Mohan Basak Lane area under Kotwali Police Station, Darussalam Police Station area and from Uttara Sector No. 12 area.

Cases have been filed against the detainees with various police stations on specific charges.
