DHAKA, Sept 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned and protested the attack on the Jatiya Party office, describing such acts against the spirit of the July Uprising and democracy.
A statement signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, 'The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has expressed deep concern and condemned the attack and vandalism by some unruly people on the Jatiya Party's central office in Kakrail."
Expressing grave concern, he highlighted that such an attack and arson incident on the Jatiya Party office will create confusion and disappointment in the public minds in fulfilling the expectations of building a democratic state and society after the July Mass Uprising.
"This is contradictory to democracy and the spirit of July Uprising," he said.
Rizvi continued that there may be differences of opinion, but preventing freedom of expression through the use of force is an expression of authoritarian attitudes.
At the same time, he said the existence of multi-party politics is inevitable in a true democracy and whether a political party's organizational activities will continue or its survival depends on the will or unwillingness of the people.
He also said, "Stopping the activities of a political party by creating fear through threats, attacks, or violent behaviour is not at all consistent with the universal multi-party democratic principles."
