DHAKA, Sep 5, 2015 (BSS) - Adviser to BNP chairperson Zainul Abedin Faruque today said elections were not fair not only under Sheikh Hasina but also under Sheikh Mujib.

"Not just under Sheikh Hasina, but even under Sheikh Mujib, elections weren't fair," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by Bangladesh Swadhinata Ghosok Parishad at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club in the city.

Zainul Abedin said, "If some people in Bangladesh, instigated by Delhi, try to collude with the Awami League once again to foil the election under this Yunus government, the people will resist."

He said that a conspiracy is still ongoing to disrupt the election. "Various methods and tactics, including public relations and mob creation, have begun in an effort to thwart the election," he added.

The BNP leader further said, "Many attempts have been made over the last 16 years to erase the name of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. But they could not remove the name of Shaheed Zia from the hearts of the people. You can smash a picture with a stone, but you cannot erase a name from a heart."

Mentioning that BNP never betrayed with the people of the country, Zainul Abedin said, "The people of this country know that Shaheed Zia's party, whenever in power did not betrayed the people. Tarique Rahman's sacrifice is immense. If the interim government can deliver a fair election, Tarique Rahman will become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh."

Senior joint convener of the Central Committee of the Tanti Dal Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, president of the Bangladesh Swadhinata Ghosok Parishad Sheikh Shamim Hasan Anik, and general secretary Md. Ismail Hossain, among others, were present at the discussion.
