DHAKA, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP National Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmmud Chowdhury today said the more regulations there are in a sector, the more corruption there will be.

He said, "We need to move toward self-regulation. In Bangladesh, where there's more control, there's more corruption. Therefore, the country's private hospitals and pharmaceutical sectors must be freed from government control."

Khasru made the remarks as the special guest at the 'Bangladesh Health Conclave-2025' organized by Bonik Barta at a hotel in the city.

The senior BNP leader said that the biggest problem in the country is government control. "We've decided to move towards deregulation. Many might feel they're losing control, but we're moving forward with deregulation and granting freedom. The private hospitals and clinics must be given the opportunity for self-regulation."

"BNP is moving towards self-regulation. I urge you to prepare in advance. Build the necessary capacity for this. It's important to remember that we must move away from conventional investment policies and a controlled system," he added.

At the time, Amir Khosru announced that if the BNP comes to power, 5 percent of the GDP will be allocated to the health sector. "We've decided to increase investment in primary and preventive healthcare. We (BNP) are bringing a new health policy."

In the future, more than 5 percent of the GDP will be spent on this sector. "If people can be given free primary and preventive care, the cost of social security will decrease. If a person can reduce family's expenses, their livelihood and living standards will become easier. We're adopting this policy after careful consideration."
