DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) – Tehran has appreciated Dhaka’s balanced diplomatic stance on Middle East issues and underscored the need to further expand bilateral relations.
The embassy highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran, based on mutual respect and shared values, reaffirming its commitment to non-interference in internal affairs, according to a press statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka.
It welcomed the recent meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, expressing optimism about enhanced engagement.
It noted Iran’s efforts to facilitate the safe passage of Bangladeshi vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and the evacuation of 186 Bangladeshi nationals via Azerbaijan.
The statement praised Bangladesh’s role in promoting peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy, noting its importance for both the region and the wider international community.
The embassy also conveyed appreciation for Bangladesh’s condolences following the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and acknowledged Dhaka’s humanitarian gesture, including emergency medical assistance sent through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
At the same time, the embassy expressed concern over what it described as selective and inaccurate dissemination of media content related to Middle East developments, urging responsible journalism.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ties, the embassy called for upholding mutual respect and avoiding actions that could create misunderstandings between the two friendly nations.
