DHAKA, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said people will not accept an attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.
"The people of the country cannot accept such an attack on him. We condemn this incident and want a fair investigation," he told reporters after visiting Nurul Haque Nur at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Moyeen said such an incident should not be repeated in Bangladesh. No one can be silenced by force, he added.
Nurul Haque Nur has been undergoing treatment in the ICU of DMCH.
Moyeen said that before August 2024, 63 political parties of the country, including BNP, were on the streets in the movement to restore democracy.
Nurul Haque Nur played an important role in that movement, he mentioned.
"We will restore democracy in the same way in the future and there will be freedom of expression and peaceful coexistence," he said.
The senior BNP leader said, "If you look at the history, you will see that the people of this country have never tolerated oppression. They have protested and fought for independence many times."
Stating that everyone should believe in the democratic process, Moyeen said the aspirations of the people must be clearly reflected through fair voting.
They will give their opinion in the election and those who get the majority through that opinion will run this country, he said.
At the time, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Health Secretary Dr Parvez Reza Kakon, and Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan were present.
Earlier in the morning, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam also visited Nurul Haque Nur at DMCH.
Dr Rafiqul Islam said that a medical board has been formed for Nurul Haque Nur's treatment. He is receiving treatment under the supervision of Dr Zahid Raihan of the Neurosurgery Department at DMCH.
