DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) –Associate Professor Dr Sheikh Forhad, Proctor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), held a discussion meeting with leaders of the USA unit of the Diploma Engineers Association of Bangladesh (DUAB) on Wednesday.
The event took place at the Mezzanine Party Hall in Jamaica, New York, a press release said today.
The meeting was presided over by DUAB USA unit President Engineer Sharif Chowdhury Pappu and jointly moderated by General Secretaries Engineer Main Uddin Miyaji and Mamun Hossain Biplob.
Maulana Wali Ullah Md Atiqur Rahman, President of the New York State unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Saidur Rahman Sayeed, General Secretary of New York State BNP, attended it.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Dr Forhad criticized the previous Awami League government, alleging that it had suppressed citizens' fundamental rights, including freedom of speech and voting.
He praised the current government for restoring those rights and expressed optimism that the upcoming national elections would further strengthen the people’s freedom.
However, Dr Forhad warned of ongoing conspiracies to sabotage the national elections.
“Both the people in the country and the expatriate community must remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine the democratic process,” he said.
Earlier, on August 21, Dr Forhad arrived at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York with his family.
