SYLHET, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court today seized 1.5 lakh cubic feet of stones in Sylhet Sadar Upazila.

Acting on a trip off, these stones were extracted using an excavator in a drive on Thursday. The matter of replacing those is under process, said Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khusnur Rubaiyat.

She said the administration was working to replace some of the stones, previously seized in Dhopagul and Lalbagh areas of Sadar Upazila, at Sada Pathor in Companiganj.

At that time, it was informed that there were stones in five abandoned ponds in these two areas.

Later, Sylhet Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sarkar Mamunur Rashid conducted the drive and were able to extract the stones through an excavator.

Mamunur Rashid said the stones were hidden in five abandoned ponds in Dhopagul and Lalbagh areas.

Earlier, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam had given an ultimatum to recover the white stones. That ultimatum ended last Tuesday.

The administration said during this period, traders and locals have voluntarily returned 6.5 lakh cubic feet of stones.

At the same time, another 1.9 lakh cubic feet of stones have been recovered.

In total, about 2.6 lakh cubic feet of stones have been recovered from looters.

Of those, about 11 lakh cubic feet of white stones have been replaced till Tuesday, said Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam.
