RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS)- Dope test for the aspirant candidates of the upcoming election to the Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU), hall unions and students' representative to the senate begins today.
The test began at RU Medical Centre through collecting samples. Today, samples of the candidates for the posts of RUCSU and students' representative to the senate were collected from 9 am to 12 noon.
The sample collection will continue till September 1 and the students have been asked to show their respective bank pay slips mentioning their names, identification number and mobile number before giving the sample.
According to the announced schedule, the RUCSU election, hall unions and students' representative to the senate will be held on September 25, 2025.
As per the new schedule, distribution of nomination papers will continue from August 24 to 31, while submission of the candidatures will be accepted between September 1 and 7.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on September 8 and 9, and the preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 11.
Objections can be submitted and settled on September 14, while September 15 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of candidature. The final list of candidates will be published on September 16.
Polling will be held on September 25 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm without any intermission at the university's administrative building. Counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on the same day.
Earlier, on August 19, the university authorities published the final voter list for the election. A total of 25,152 students, including 15,468 female students, have been listed as eligible voters.
After a lapse of 35-year, students of Rajshahi University are poised to regain their voting rights through this long-awaited RUCSU election. The last such election was held in 1989-90 academic year.
Preparations are in full swing to ensure a free and fair election.
According to the RUCSU constitution, student union elections are supposed to be held annually, but the process remained suspended for decades due to various reasons.
