CUCSU polls on October 12

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - The long-awaited Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and Hall Council elections will be held on October 12.

Election Commissioner Professor Dr. AKM Ariful Haque Siddiqui confirmed the election schedule today.

According to the schedule, nomination papers will be distributed from September 14 to 16, with submissions accepted on September 15 and 16. 

Scrutiny of the nominations will be conducted on September 21, followed by the publication of the primary candidate list the same day. 

The last day for withdrawal of candidacy is September 23, and the final list of candidates will be published on September 25.

Voting is scheduled for October 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the CUCSU building, with vote counting and results announced on the same day.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Profe Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin said preparations for the elections are nearly complete and the remaining tasks are expected to be finalized within two days. He added that the election code of conduct will be published shortly.

Chief Election Commissioner Prof Monir Uddin assured that all arrangements have been made to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election, describing the upcoming vote as a "festive and competitive event."

Earlier, in response to student demands, the new CUCSU constitution was approved at the 559th syndicate meeting on August 1. 

Under the updated rules, executive committee posts have increased from 18 to 28, the maximum age limit for candidates and members has been set at 30 years and the number of executive members has been reduced from 10 to 5.

The first CUCSU election was held in 1970, following the establishment of the university in 1966. The last election took place on February 8, 1990.
