DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in separate drives, today arrested three people from Taraganj Bazar and Kodalia Bazar under Sadar upazila of the district.
They also seized 36 smuggled gold bars weighing 7.34 kilograms, worth about Taka 7.9 crore, from the possession of the arrested persons.
Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 49th Battalion of the BGB, said acting on a tip-off, they raided Taraganj Bazar at about 9:30 am and arrested two persons. They seized 34 gold bars weighing 4.9 kilograms from their wallet and waists.
The arrested persons are Zahid Hossain, 26, son of Nur Mohammad of Loan Office Para in the town, and Sujan Kumar Das alias Bappi, 34, son of Ananda Chandra Das of village Fatepur under Jhikargachha upazila.
Earlier, another team of the BGB raided Kodalia Bazar at 6am and arrested one Ashraful Islam Sajid, 23, along with two gold bars weighing 434 grams each.
Arrested Ashraful Islam is the son of Akram Hossain of Angaria village of Manikganj district.
He said that the arrested persons brought the gold bars from Dhaka's Jatrabari and Manikganj areas and were going to the bordering areas of Jashore to smuggle them to India.
All the arrested persons were later handed over to Jashore Kotwali Thana, and two cases were lodged in this connection. The seized gold bars were deposited in the government treasury, he added.
