JCD announces full panel for JUCSU polls

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today announced its full panel of candidates for the long-awaited Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election scheduled for September 11.

The announcement was made at a press conference held in front of the university's Adommo '24' monument at around 1:15 pm. 

JCD central senior vice-president Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahya formally unveiled the panel, while JU JCD Convenor Jahir Uddin Babor and Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik were present.

According to the announcement, Sheikh Sadi, president of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall unit and a student of Bangla department (48th Batch), has been nominated for vice-president (VP) and Tanziila Hossain Baishakhi, president of Hall No. 13, has been nominated for general secretary (GS).

Besides, Md. Sajjadul Islam of the 49th batch was nominated as joint general secretary (male) and Anjuman Ara Iqra as joint general secretary (female).

The panel also includes: Yamin Howlader, Education and Research Secretary; Likhan Chandra Roy, Environment and Nature Conservation Secretary; Zahid Hasan Khan, Literature and Publication Secretary; Md. Abidur Rahman, Cultural Secretary; Md. Parvez Hasan Nishan, Assistant Cultural Secretary; Md. Aminul Islam, Drama Secretary; Md. Jaber Hasan, ICT and Library Secretary; Md. Tawhidur Rahman Khan, Social Welfare and Human Resource Development Secretary; Shakil Sardar, Assistant Social Welfare Secretary (Male); Kazi Mousumi Afroze, Assistant Social Welfare Secretary (Female); Ujjal Hasan, Sports Secretary; Ruhul Amin Sweet, Assistant Sports Secretary (Male); Mosammat Shahanaj Parveen Shanu, Assistant Sports Secretary (Female); Zahidul Islam, Transport and Communication Secretary and Md. Mominul Islam, Health and Food Security Secretary.

Executive members nominated include Sumaiya Sultana Siya, Happy Akter Shila, and Shaila Sabreen Nijhum (female) and Hamidullah Salman, Mehedi Hasan and A.M. Rafidullah (male).

Addressing the press conference, Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahya said, "Our fundamental commitments are democracy, coexistence of multiple opinions and ideologies, freedom of expression, quality higher education, adequate accommodation and food facilities, student-friendly politics, a safe campus for female students, and promotion of cultural and intellectual activities."

He also highlighted JCD's historical role in Bangladesh's democratic movements, including the anti-autocracy movement, the 1990 mass uprising, the One-Eleven political crisis, the fight against fascism and the mass uprising of 2024.

"This long-awaited JUCSU election is an opportunity to create a diverse and secure campus with enriched cultural and intellectual life. We are committed to building such a campus together with students," Yahya added.
