5 get life-imprisonment in Mymensingh college student murder case

MYMENSINGH, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced five people to life-imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of college student Ibrahim Khalil.

Judge Farhana Ferdous of Mymemnsingh Special Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgment this afternoon.

The convicts are Nishad, Khorshed, Tushar, Sabuj and Paris Diamond. Each of them was also fined Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail. 

Of the convicts, Khorshed is absconding. The court, however, acquitted two accused-Saddam and Pavel-as the charges against them could not be proved.

According to the case documents, Ibrahim Khalil, son of Mawlana Jalal Uddin of Rouha Madhyapara in Gafargaon upazila, was a bachelor's (Honors) third-year student of Islamic History and Culture at Ananda Mohan College, Mymensingh. 

On the night of January 18, 2018, he went out to buy medicine for his father when muggers intercepted him at Kewatkhali area, snatching his mobile phone and cash. Following an altercation, the muggers stabbed Khalil indiscriminately with sharp knives, leaving him injured critically. Locals rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The next day, brother-in-law of the victim's Sarwar Hossain filed the murder case with Kotwali Model Police Station.
