BCC working to dismantle market syndicate

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) has been working relentlessly to break the market syndicate and protecting the rights of the consumers. 

Member of the BCC Dr. Afroza Bilkis said this while speaking as chief guest at a views sharing meeting with business leaders in Chattogram here this morning. 

Chattogram Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) and BCC jointly organized the meeting on ‘Competition Law 2012 and apprising the functions of BCC’ at CCCI conference room with CCCI Administrator and Additional Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Anowar Pasha in the chair. 

Afroza Bilkis also said BCC has put in importance to simplifying the existing laws and regulations related to the commission by accumulating the opinions of the businessmen.

Bangladesh Competition Act was formulated in 2012 and Bangladesh Competition Commission was constituted in 2016 to execute the Competition Act aimed at ensuring fair competition in the trade and business fields, she said.
 
Core aim of the Act is to keep the market situation stable, foil attempts of unscrupulous circle to create artificial crisis in the market and resist plot for price spiral, Dr. Bilkis added.

Taking part in the discussion, the business leaders laid emphasis on working together by all important private and public organizations including BCC, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, National Board of Revenue and media outlets aiming at making the appeal and impact of Competition Act universal.  

BCC Director Bimolendu Bhoumik, General Secretary of Chattogram Customs Agents Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association Shawkat Ali, director of Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber Md Solaiman, director of Chattogram Woman Chamber Amina Shahin and representatives from different public and private sector organizations were present.
