3 held, 887.50 grams gold seized at Shahjalal airport

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in separate raids have arrested three people with 887.50 grams of gold at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.

A press release from the Airport APBn said that Md. Saleh Faisal (27) was arrested with 293.50 grams of gold ornaments worth about 36.11 lakh at the roundabout of the departure of the airport on Sunday.

On the same day, a person named Monirul Islam (34) was arrested in the area adjacent to the media corner of the arrival terminal no. 2.

During the search, 395 grams of gold ornaments worth about Tk 46.22 lakh were seized from his possession.

In another incident, a person named Masum Rana (32) was arrested at Arrival Terminal No. 2 of the airport with 199 grams of gold ornaments. 

Three separate cases were filed under the Special Powers Act with the Bimanbandar Police Station in these connections.

During the preliminary interrogation, they confessed they brought gold to Bangladesh by evading customs through unknown passengers from different countries, Airport APBn sources said.
    
Besides, they have been working as receivers for gold smuggling syndicates at the airport for a long time, the sources added.

In this regard, Police Superintendent Mohammad Mozammel Haque, Operational Commander of the Airport APBn said that they are vigilant in checking smuggling and other crimes in the airport areas. 

"We are always in a hot pursuit to prevent gold smuggling," he said.
