RANGPUR, Aug 16, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami executive council member ATM Azaharul Islam has said his party does not support or believe in mob justice.
"Mob justice is an inhuman behavior and mentality. Humans are the best of creation. No one has the right to beat another person to death," he said.
He made the remarks while visiting the family of Ruplal Das, who was killed in a mob attack on the night of August 9 in Battali area of Soyar Union, Taraganj Upazila, Rangpur, on suspicion of cattle theft.
ATM Azaharul Islam expressed condolences to the victim's family and said those who take the law into their own hands are not human. "They are inhuman," he added.
"We are all the best of creation as made by Allah Almighty. How can such people beat another to death? No one has the right to take the law into their own hands," he said.
During the visit, he provided financial assistance to Ruplal Das's family and assured support for the marriage of the victim's daughter on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Earlier in the day, ATM Azaharul Islam addressed a gathering of Musollis at Ghanirampur Bhanga Mosque in Taraganj upazila.
At the gathering, he said the previous Awami League-led government tried to stay in power through killings, abductions, and torture of scholars, youth, women, and children.
"They fled the country because Allah crushed their arrogance. The country is now free from oppression," he said.
He urged all to unite in the next election and vote for Islamic forces to establish peace and justice in society.
Taraganj upazila Jamaat Ameer SM Alamgir presided over the event.
Youth unit Secretary Lecturer Aminul Islam, along with other local Jamaat leaders and activists, were present.
