LAKSHMIPUR, Aug 15, 2025 (BSS) - BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie today said Awami League never emerged as a political party after the 1971 Liberation War, rather it turned into a 'non-political party' with a fascist and authoritarian mindset.

"Sheikh Hasina spared no one. Love for the country and compassion for its people were never her concern while governing the country. Hasina came to Bangladesh to avenge the killing of her father," he said while addressing a representative meeting of BNP at Purba Char Monsa Government Primary School field in Tewariganj union of Sadar upazila in the district.

The BNP leader, however, stressed the need for a free and fair election to avoid one-man rule, one-party rule or fascist governance unlike the 2014, 2018, or 2024 elections.

Tewariganj union BNP President Nurul Alam presided over the meeting.

Lakshmipur district BNP member secretary Shahab Uddin Sabu and joint convenor Hasibur Rahman, district Lawyers' Forum President Hafizur Rahman, Sadar (Purba) Upazila BNP convenor Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz, senior joint convenor Shah Md Emran and member secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Harun, among others, addressed the meeting.
