Travel ban imposed on ex-vice chairman of Al Arafah Bank

DHAKA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on three people, including the former vice-chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited, SM Shameem Iqbal and his wife, Hasina Iqbal, over graft allegations.

The other person, who has been barred from leaving the country, is SM Agro managing director Minhazul Haque.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the anti-graft body, the ACC has already appointed an investigation officer to probe allegations of money laundering against the accused.

"During the investigation, it was learnt that the trio is trying to flee the country, and if they succeed in doing so, the probe against them will be hampered. So, for the sake of proper investigation, a travel ban should be imposed on them immediately," the ACC plea said.
