DINAJPUR, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) – To keep the price of rice stable, the government has allowed 15 trading organizations to import 26,000 tonnes of rice from India through Hili land port.

Deputy Assistant Officer of the Quarantine Department of Dinajpur Hili Land Port Md Yusuf Ali said today that rice import activities from India will start through the Hili Land Port from tomorrow.

President of Dinajpur Hili Land Port Import-Export Workers Group Md Ferdous ur Rahman said that the import decision was taken after a meeting between the Hili Land Port Import-Export Workers Group and the Clearing &Forwarding Association this afternoon.

“After receiving the allocation for rice import from the Ministry of Food, importers applied for IP (import permit). In view of the application, 15 traders have been allowed to import 26,000 tonnes of rice today,” he said.

Importing companies can start rice import activities anytime from tomorrow (Wednesday), he added.

According to the Quarantine Department, Diamond Enterprises received permission to import 3,000 tonnes of rice, Parshi International 1,000 tonnes, Hili Impress 1,000 tonnes, Mifa International 1,000 tonnes, Shayram International 4,000 tonnes, Parmita Enterprise 5,000 tonnes along with several other importers.

Talking to BSS, an importer at Hili Land Port Md Shahinur Islam said that the country's rice market is currently booming.

Since the price of Indian rice is quite low, it is possible to make profit by importing rice following the government rules, he said.

“So traders opened Letter of Credits (LCs) to import rice from India. The rice import activities will start tomorrow,” Islam said.
