BNP leader Wadud Bhuiyan acquitted from 20-yr sentence

DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court today accepted the appeal of former BNP lawmaker Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan against the 20-year sentence and acquitted him subsequently.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman and Justice Md Sagir Hossain acquitted him from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case filed during the caretaker government in 2007.

Senior lawyers Mansurul Haque Chowdhury and SM Shahjahan, lawyers Barrister Kaiser Kamal and Maqsud Ullah appeared in favour of the petitioner before the court.

ACC filed the case on March 3, 2007.  The charge-sheet was filed on June 6 of the same year. Later, the verdict was delivered on July 22. 

The Chittagong Divisional Judge's Court handed down the verdict on charges of amazing assets worth over Tk 6.36 crore and concealing information about his assets from the ACC.
Wadud Bhuiyan is a central leader of BNP and Khagrachari district unit of BNP president.
