DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said the foundation of a true welfare state lies in reforming both individual and societal mindsets.

Speaking at a medical campaign held at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Saturday, Salahuddin emphasized the need for a "mental and societal reform" as a continuous process to achieve lasting change.

"We need to reform our mindset, our way of thinking, and the way society views its responsibilities. This should be our collective social movement. Our society, our state -- even the BNP -- must go through a daily process of reform. Only then can we build a welfare-oriented state," he said.

The event was organised by Amra BNP Poribar to provide medical assistance to victims of the July uprising, cancer patients, and others suffering from illnesses.

Salahuddin stressed that structural reforms alone are not enough to build a humane state.

"We may enact a democratic constitution through reforms, but if the government operating under that constitution, and the people themselves, do not shift their mindset, no meaningful change will take place," he said.

He added that those entrusted with running the state, along with its citizens, must undergo a mental and ideological transformation.

"Only with a reformed perspective can we build a truly humane and inclusive system of governance," he said.

Highlighting the sacrifices made during the 1971 Liberation War and the recent July uprising, Salahuddin urged everyone to work toward a Bangladesh that reflects the dreams and aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives.
