DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said his party welcomed the July Proclamation announced by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
"Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus led interim government started work on reforming state system holding discussions with all political parties for rebuilding country's destroyed political and economic structures. In continuation, the chief adviser announced July Proclamation yesterday. BNP welcomes it," he said.
The BNP secretary general was reading out a written statement at a press conference at BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan here.
He said, "The BNP believes that the work of graduating to a new democratic Bangladesh will begin by fulfilling the commitments made by political parties in this proclamation. This will create an opportunity to build a truly progressive and prosperous Bangladesh based on equality, human values and justice."
The BNP's veteran leader also expressed sincere gratitude to all the people to be participated in the July uprising.
He said, "BNP extends its heartfelt gratitude to all political parties, students, farmers, workers, and people from all walks of life who participated, were martyred, injured, or disabled in this struggle."
Fakhrul further noted that the fascist government had intentionally taken away the voting rights of the people, saying: "The fascist Hasina's government systematically destroyed democracy by depriving the people of their rights to vote and making consecutive three elections a farce."
"To establish a one-party system, they applied all forms of oppressive measures. They politicized all state institutions and used the state machinery as a weapon for that purpose. They looted money, laundered money abroad, robbed banks, turned educational institutions into havens for Chhatra League terrorists, looted stock market, and established a mafia-like system," he added.
The BNP secretary general also welcomed the announcement of the election date scheduled for next February, saying the issue was discussed at a meeting between BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Yunus in London.
"BNP believes this historic announcement will help overcome the political impasse in Bangladesh and pave the way for a transition to democracy," he said.
"BNP hopes the interim government and the Election Commission will take all necessary measures to ensure a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election to everyone," he continued.
The BNP secretary general also urged all political parties and people to ensure fair election, institutionalization of democracy, and formation of an effective national parliament.
