DHAKA, Aug 4, 2025 (BSS) - Authorities of the Bangladesh Railway (BR) today sought cooperation from all to avoid accidents.
"Although several train derailments took place recently on various routes, it has been possible to avoid major loss of life and property due to the caution and immediate action of the Bangladesh Railway," according to a statement from the railway authority.
It said separate investigation committees were formed to determine the cause of each accident across the country, while legal action will be taken against those responsible for the mishaps in line with the investigation reports.
The BR stated that the recent accidents were caused by malicious attempts from certain individuals or groups outside the railway staff.
On the night of August 3, a chain was locked with the railway line at Madhnagar railway track in Natore in an attempt to cause a train accident.
However, prompt measures were taken to remove the lock and restore normal rail service.
It is believed that the incident was planned with the intention of causing a major accident.
Regarding the plan, intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities were informed, the BR statement said.
The BR said that it is difficult for the railway or the government alone to control such subversive activities.
In this regard, adequate public involvement and cooperation are essential.
The railway authorities requested all to immediately inform the nearest railway office or local administration if any suspicious objects or obstacles are found on or around railway tracks anywhere in the country.
Bangladesh Railway also requested all to contact its hotline number 131 or the emergency service number 999 (toll-free). The identity of the informant will always be kept confidential, it said.
