DHAKA, Aug 1, 2025 (BSS) - On behalf of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, senior party leaders Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed, both members of BNP National Standing Committee, visited the Hathazari Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasah in Chattogram today.
The BNP delegation arrived at the prominent Hathazari madrasah at noon and paid homage at the graves of former Hefazat-e-Islam leaders Maulana Shah Ahmed Shafi and Maulana Muhammad Junaid Babunagari.
During the visit, the delegation also exchanged with madrasah authorities, in the presence of teachers, local scholars and BNP activists.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Salahuddin Ahmed addressed key political issues, including the electoral process and the ongoing dialogue surrounding the proposed July Charter.
"We have not yet received a clear statement from the government regarding the use of the Proportional Representation (PR) method in the upcoming elections," he said.
Commenting on the July Charter, he noted that the draft has been circulated among all political parties and was broadly accepted.
"All parties have received the recommendations and everyone has responded positively. However, the charter has not been officially signed yet," he added.
Ahmed said the final version would reflect a collective agreement.
"Out of 826 proposals, consensus has been reached on all but 51," he added.
He hoped a new state structure would be established through national consensus.
