Target fixed to produce 4,28,616 tonnes of rice in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, JULY 30, 2025 (BSS) - Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has fixed a target to produce 4,28,616 tonnes of clean rice in the district during the current Aman season.

To make the production of Aman paddy a grand success, a plan has been made for the department to bring a total of 1,33,120 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy this season. 

Of them, some 59, 105 hectares of land were brought under T-Aman cultivsation in Sadar upazila, 52, 533 in Sadullapur upazila, 33, 942 in Palashbari upazila, 102881 in Gobindaganj upazila, 99586 in Sundarganj upazila, 47002 in Saghata upazila, 25, 627 in Fulchhari upazila of the district, office sources said. 

Of the total, some 121,235 hectares of land have been brought under high-yield variety (HYV), 4575 hectares of land under local Variety and 7230 in hybrid variety, sources said.

At this moment, the farmers are busy transplanting the seedlings of Aman paddy on the wet land. 

To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) has also kept its electricity running 365 deep tube wells fully ready to supply irrigation water to the Aman paddy field, if necessary, said an engineer of BMDA. 
    
Besides, different state-run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank took initiatives to disburse agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them farm the T-Aman paddy on their land without economic hardship, said a bank official.

In addition, DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management, proper use of fertilizer and preservation of quality seed, said Rostam Ali, acting district training officer of DAE here.

The transplanted Aman seedlings have grown well on the land that gives the farmers hopes and expectations of desired production this year. 
    
Talking to the BSS deputy director of DAE Krishibid Khorshed Alam Sarker said necessary measures had been taken for the availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other agri inputs at the grassroots level of the district during the current Aman season.
